Deb & Family
This section focuses on introducing Hugh’s wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, and their family together.
Deborra-Lee Furness is an Australian actress and director, perhaps most famous for her work in the 1995 TV series Correlli, in which she starred in the title role as Louisa Correlli. Her latest work includes directing the Hugh segment “Standing Room Only” in the Paris, je t’aime-esque Stories of Lost Souls (2005) and an acclaimed supporting role as Jude in the Australian drama Jindabyne (2006).
Deborra-Lee was born in 1959 in Australia. She is a graduate of the prestigeous American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. Deb is best known for her acting in 90’s movies and TV series, such as Correlli (1995), but is currently trying to make a name for herself as an aspiring director. However, thus far, she only has two directing credits, with the latest one being the short segment “Standing Room Only”, which is one of the six stories in Stories of Lost Souls (2005). Deb’s acting has recently been noted by critics, as she was recently nominated “Best Supporting Actress” for her performance in Jindabyne (2006) by the Australian Film Institute (AFI) (Congratulations, Deb!).
Deb and Hugh met for the first time on set of Correlli, in which Hugh guest appeared as the charismatic bad boy and criminal, Kevin Jones, for 10 episodes. They married the following year in April 1996, and have been happily married since. Since then, Hugh and Deb have adopted two children, Oscar Maximillian Jackman in May 2000 (born May 15 2000) and Ava Eliot Jackman in July 2005 (born July 10, 2005).
“She is the best mother in the world. I’ve sort of fallen in love with Deb all over again in a different way in watching her be a mother. It’s not deeper than the love you had when she was just your wife. But it’s a beautiful thing to watch that lioness protective quality that comes out.” - Hugh on his wife
