Synopsis: A mutant attack on the President of the United States launches a series of events leading to the dreadful possibility of a war between humans and mutants. In an attempt to wipe out all mutants, General William Stryker (Brian Cox) kidnaps the powerful psychic Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), and the task is left to the X-Men to save him before its too late. However, as the situation evolves, it becomes evident that Stryker is somehow connected to Wolverine's (Hugh Jackman) past. The situation also puts a strain on Jean Grey's (Famke Janssen) and Cyclops' (James Marsden) relationship, which reaches a dramatic conclusion.
Personal comments: Not quite as good as its prequel, but entertaining nonetheless. In X-Men 2 the entertainment/humor part is not emphasized to the extent it is in X-Men (2000), which does the movie both credit and harm. Credit in the sense that in X-Men 2 we have now moved onto more serious and realistic events, something modern day man can relate to, which is why the humor in the movie takes second place and rightfully so. However, this decision also does the movie some harm, as with these kind of comic book based movies one should be careful not to moralize too much - after all, the X-Men-trilogy goes mainly under the genre Action/Adventure rather than Drama/Epic. X-Men 2 is nevertheless an entertaining watch, and stays in line with its prequel.
Personal rating: 3+/5
